Let me tell you a story.
There once a guy, a former animator, who was so engrossed in animation, lost media, and true crime.
One day, he stumbled upon a Whang video about an anime that doesn't exist. Some claim that it's the most fucked-up thing that they ever saw, while some even equated it to be as gruesome and as graphic as, let's say, Shoujo Tsubaki. Now, this guy thought "if it's that fucked up to the point of getting redacted, then there should be at least some recreations, right?". There are plenty.
This guy, curious about the whole thing, looked it up all over the internet, and ended up doing a deep dive down the rabbit hole of Saki Sanobashi.
So, seven girls locked up in a public restroom ended up killing each other to survive, save for one, which the community has since referred to as Saki. For brevity and consistency's sake, let's just call her that. Now, this has since been a wild goose chase all over the internet as to what this really is, and if anything, is this even called Saki Sanobashi in the first place?
He knows his Japanese, even if a little bit rusty. Saki is indeed a common name, but Sanobashi sounds like so made up it almost felt stupidly comical. However, ge saw some posts saying that this was called Saki-san no Bashitsu. Now, you'd think that it sounds more proper now, aye? Bashitsu still sounded a bit iffy on this one, but after doing some translation checks, it could've meant batsushitstu or "punishment room". But then it does still sound kinda iffy to him. So for the sake of this discussion, let's just call it Saki Sanobashi. End of story.
So, let's end the whole introduction here and get straight to the point. Why am I even writing this? Because I am that person, and I decided to make an animated short film out of it in the same spirit as Shoujo Tsubaki. Well, at least, decided. But not anymore as I had to cancel it alongside my pursuit of an animation career that I've been trying to chase after for the last 8 years.
I've developed the story with Tomas-T, NG64, Infiniti Kokomori, Kaito, and Raceraot. Look, You might think that it's a lot of people for such a story. The thing is, I can't write for shit. I am more of a visual guy than a verbal guy, let alone written, so I had to talk to people about this and exchange favors if needed be. I asked for outside opinions from other creators about the story and they found it alright enough to go ahead with the pre-production planning from my end. After all, this will be an entirely one-man project that I already projected that will be done in probably 3 to 6 years should I encounter life problems which can possibly impede development. I already drawn the KV, did the final draft after series of back and forth between collaborators, and scouted for possible musicians to work with for the short film's score. I already expected that I'll take some money out of my pocket for this and that it'll be costly to develop, but I already decided upon that by planning my yearly budget ahead of time to project how much will it be. I thought it was doable until shit happened.
I had to drop the project and to completely retire from pursuing an animation career for so long to set my priorities straight, and to finally face the problem at hand. I'm already hitting my 30s in just a year, and I still don't have any sizable investment to peacefully retire to even have the resources to do this, let alone the financial muscle to buy our own flat, establish a business with my spouse, and buy a car or even a basic motorcycle. This is all despite me working three jobs and there's also me struggling from bipolar and withdrawals from smoking cessation and alcoholism. There's a lot to unpack here but probably one at a time when I feel comfortable enough.
Well, for some who are interested on picking this up, because I don't see myself doing this anymore, you can check this Google Link.
Now, I'm not asking for too much, but I am putting this up for views and use for everyone who's interested. Should you want to use this as a base, please at least credit the following people who are all involved in writing and developing this with me: Tomas-T, NG64, Infiniti Kokomori, Kaito, and Raceraot
Godspeed, and good luck. If you want to do this, then please let me know. It's in your hands now.
